Every once in a while, a group of young musicians meet by chance and are drawn to each other by their passion for music. Red Herring is one of those bands.
Comprised of four young musicians between 12 and 15, they possess rock sensibilities beyond their youthful ages. This is no more evident than in their song selections. The Beatles “Yer Blues” rocks with a vengeance, while the Who’s “Odorono” demonstrates their playful side. They have a mutual admiration for musicians and bands such as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, the Who, the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.
Red Herring has been together for just about a year, having met at the School of Rock in Rochester, Michigan where all are currently enrolled in the House Band. They are all multi-instrumentalists: Melanie, 15 (vocals, guitar, piano, bass, ukulele), Max, 12 (drums, bass, guitar, piano); Aaron, 12 (guitar, bass, drums) and Josh, 14 (drums, vocals, piano)
